When we went to the beach last week, we visited my aunt and uncle who have a home there. Luckily the week we went down was the same week their granddaughters were visiting. One of them happens to be the same age as my older child. Since neither girl brought anything to play with together and sunburn from the previous two days on the beach made the pool a no-no, after watching Ice Princess, my daughter pulled out her book, 1001 Things To Do When There Is Nothing To Do. There are lots of ideas in the book for different kinds of activities you can do with little to nothing. One of the chapters in the book has riddles. My daughter read the various ones and we actually guessed a few of them. When my daughter asked, "What do you call an annoying vampire?," my just-turned-five year old answered, "Ahm. A blood-sucking freak?" We just about fell out from shock, and after I finished laughing, I asked her where she heard that. She said, "I don't know." To this day, I have no idea where she got that. By the way, the correct answer was "a pain in the neck."
Tonight we saw "Sky High" at the theater. I will post on it later when I have more time, but it is a cute movie that the family can see together. I enjoyed it, although much of it is predictable. There is one character that is named Magenta (which I think is a total ripoff of Violet from The Incredibles, by the way) who can shapeshift, but only into the form of a Guinea Pig. Well at the end of the movie, Magenta helps save the day. My five-year-old's comment at the end of the movie was that Glowing (her nickname for another character) and "Gerbil Girl" saved the day. For some reason I am still laughing at her referring to Magenta, the Guinea Pig, as "Gerbil Girl." Maybe you had to be there.
