In unrelated NC news, former Senator Jesse Helms' book, "Here's Where I Stand, A Memoir," goes on sale today. I have not yet read the book, but those familiar with NC politics will recognize the reference to the legendary 1980 Hunt-Helms Senate race in which Helms' question to Hunt, "Where do you stand, Jim" became the signature line of the campaign

I am not crazy about this either, Don. My husband is for it because all the surrounding states have a lottery so many people gamble anyway, they just send their money to SC or VA.
I have not really given it enough thought to decide whether the moral aspect of it (gambling)is what bothers me, or the way that many of those who can least afford it throw their money away on the lottery, or if I don't like the idea of the state being in that business.
