The N.C. State Fair opened on Friday and the weather throughout the weekend has been wonderful. If you live within driving distance of Raleigh and have never been to the state fair consider checking it out this year. As long as I have lived in the area, I have tried to make it to the fair at least one day each year and although I have missed a few, I could count them on one hand. I have tons of fair memories and now that I have kids I enjoy seeing them make their own. So far, the rock climbing wall, the fun house, cotton candy and every ride they are tall enough to ride are annual must do's.
Last year I met a local blogger at the fair and he posted tons of fun pictures and great commentary here, My favorite was his picture and description of those at the "Peace Booth." Be sure to check them all out.

Yay, we get a picture of you at last!!!

I saw the pictures of the NC state fair. I have been there a number of times. But it has been years. In Iowa we have a fair that resembles that one. But having lived in NC I was interested that Not one black face was visible in the picts. There are so many blacks in the area. Why are they not attending the fair? I could understand why there would be lack of black faces in Iowa since there are hardly any blacks here; but in NC??

Methinks it's probably all the country music being played.

I wouldn't read so much into one picture that only shows a dozen people or less. If the kids in that picture are anything like ours when they ride the swings, they tend to get seats on the rides that are all next to each other. That picture could represent all of two families that were there that day. I think it is a pretty huge stretch to make anything out of that one picture.
I saw plenty of people there of every color, as I have every year. Is there a noticeable majority of whites at a country music concert, "yes," just as there is an overwhelming majority of blacks at concerts of some black performers. Was there an overwhelming majority of whites at the fair? Absolutely no more of a majority than that represented the population in general. At least not as far as I can tell. I certainly didn't count heads.
I didn't take the picture above so all I can say about it is that it only shows a very small number of people.

Kudos for putting up the photo of yourself on the sidebar! Nice to put a face with one of my on-line friends. :)
I used to go to the Arizona State Fair, but it's been a few years. The one thing I'm good at on the midway is that silly thing where you try to throw ping pong balls into the floating bowls; for some reason every time I try that I win one of the big stuffed animals.
