Murtha is a doddering old fool who just happens to be a former Marine. He was probably drooling all over the Hardball set.

I don't think any one in the Corps would greet him with Semper Fi. He is an idiot who is beloved by the MSM who always refer to him as a "decorated" former Marine.

Those "decorations" are also in question but that's another story and need not be rehashed. I, for one, pity the old fool and wish he would toddle off to the nursing home and continue to make a fool of himself there.

Let me rephrase that a bit. As a vet, Vietnam long, long ago, I don't pity the old fool, I really despise him. There, I feel better.

Despite being from Texas, I have known about John Murtha since the 1990s when he and "Good-Time" Charlie Wilson started what beccame the Electronic Commerce Resource Center program (disclosure: I worked for one of the Texas ECRCs for 8 years).

During the time I was at the ECRC we kept hearing rumors of Murtha being investigated for financial improprieties, but nothing ever came of them. I left the ECRC program in Sept 2001, when it ended, but every once in a while I'd see something about Murtha -- and it was always something about his being under investigation for financial improprieties.

About a year ago I read reports that feds were about to lower the boom and file charges. Almost immediately after that he came out as an anti-war moonbat. Now he has gone really over the top.

I have to wonder whether the rumors of corruption charges have something to do with his behavior, in that he is trying to O.J. the charges. By wrapping himself in the mantle of the anti-war movement, he can now claim that any prosecution is politically motivated. Kind of an illustration that anti-patriotism is the refuge of scoundrels.

Makes more sense for his behavior than anything else I can think of. He now has the press and every Democrat in the world running interference for him. Murtha may be a sleeze, but he isn't stupid. And if he is crazy, he is crazy like a fox.

In Desert Sheild/Storm Marines went out of their way to be generous to the people of Iraq.

I remember talking with a Marine that was set to guard a mess of "enemy" soldiers he had no translator and the soldiers started standing up and he was yelling at them to sit down and they couldn't understand him a he them. He came very close to firing but held off and found out that all they wanted was water. Now I talked to him 3 yrs after this and he still got upset and had tears in his eyes when he thought about the fact that he almost killed them over water.

This is how Marines are trained, but people insist that we are nothing but killers, that we are "programmed" that way.

It is utterly repulsive that a so called former Marine would say these things.

I saw this last night, on ExposetheLeft (formerly political teen). The liberals are defending Murtha and his big mouth. NewsBusters also has a blurb about it: It seems that NBC News reported this as, "new," news, which it isn't. The story has been floating around for several months.

Murtha is declaring the Marines' guilt, while the investigation is still in progress.

Unbelievable and inexcusable.

A vote for any democrat is a vote saying that Murtha is right and our Marines are killers of innocent people, since no democrat has come forward to ask for an apology from Murtha for his remarks.

Since you already have decided that this incident happened in exactly the way Mr. Murtha described it, with no charges or hearing IAW the UCMJ, and consider the Marines guilty, I would suspect that you do not possess a DD Form 214.

And that's relevant how? John Murtha, whether you agree with him or not, has a long history of having sources within the military. Yet the kneejerk reaction of these commentators is to assume that he's lying. You, for some reason, decried him as a traitor.

Why is that?

Furthermore, until we hear from someone better informed than Murtha, I see no reason to assume this didn't happen as it has been reported.

It's worth remembering, too, that it isn't just Murtha saying this but "Military officials". Are they traitors as well?

It means that you don't respect the American legal tradition of presumed innocence until proven guilty. Howard Dean was willing to give Osama Bin Laden the presumption of innocence. Is it too much to ask of people on the left or Murtha to extend the same presumption of innocence to the people who are risking their lives in the line of fire?
