A British version of Monopoly uses a debit card instead of cash. My kids love board games, and Monopoly is one of the ones they love to play. The money always gets all crumpled up and is hard to store neatly so I won't be complaining. As for money counting skills, most kids know all that by the time they are playing Monopoly anyway so I will buy one. After they come down a bit in price, that is.

Money counting skills -- you mean as in counting back change? Because I've got to tell you that I have yet to meet a teenager who knew how to count back change. Their idea was to look at the register to see how much change was due and remove that amount from the till. When the register was down due to a power outage, they had to use a calculator. I worked with an honor student who could not count back change. The comedian Sinbad did a hilarious routine of a kid working at McDonald's not knowing how to make change.
One of the best things about playing Monopoly when I was a kid was my mother making us count back the change.
The sad thing is that I'll bet most people still don't know what I'm talking about.

Ya know, not only is it good practice counting back change, but when you're up, it's fun taking that fat stack of cash and slowly waving it in someone's face.

the gray sea and the long black land;
and the startled little waves that leap
in fiery ringlets from their sleep,
as i gain the cove with pushing prow,
and quench its qpeed i’the slushy sand.
then a mile of warm sea-scented beach;
three fields to cross till a farm appears;
a tap at the pane, the quick sharp scratch
and blue spurt of a lighted match,
and a voice less loud, through its joys and fears,
than the two hearts beating each to each!
