I wish someone else would comment around here once sometime. You put up the effort for this great blog, and are a skilled writer, Lorie. Keep up the effort.

I always liked Freddy Fender, I have his records in my collection of 10,000+ records and tapes. But I think he never could completlely part from his former rough lifestyle where he served two years in prison for narcotics. Probably smoking and drinking helped to shave many years off the life of this great country music voice of the 1970's. A great shame and a huge loss to the music world.

Close relatives of mine live in Kona, Hawaii. I'm anxious to hear from them how they're doing once the power is back up in their area after today's big earthquake. Here on the West Coast it always seems like Hawaii, Japan, Korea and China are the next states over. The Pacific is very important to Portland because of trade through our port, etc. My grandfather was a Merchant Marine captain, born in Norway, but learned English in London and used to sail this region constantly.

I'm afraid the only country musicians I listened to in the seventies were Glenn Campbell and John Denver.

I read that Freddy got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame after then Texas governor George W. Bush wrote on his behalf endorsing him. That's kind of cool
